Why is Jebel Akhder still underdeveloped?

Dear Mr. Al Khalili (Minister of Tourism),

Jebel Akhder is a popular destination which needs a serious development, my last visit to the place was great but accommodation wise I was disappointed beyond description. The place is breath taking but the hotel I stayed at was NOT!

The fact that there was one hotel with poor facilities & another being built which did take a long time to finish is just sad. Both are of poor quality, they are good for the campers or people who are looking for basic & cheap accommodation but nothing else. Entertainment is almost none existing over there, only thing an Omani can do in the evenings is BBQ... I suggest that you seriously start planning a luxurious spa resort, the Six Sense in Musandam should've opened in the Jebel. At least it'd be easy for people to access it hence its closer to Muscat, oh well.. We still have time to correct some of our mistakes!

The area can generate a lot of money provided that excellent services & new resorts & hotels (4+ star) are developed, if I was the minister of tourism I will make sure new exciting culture friendly projects (with limits to their culture friendly-ness level) get developed in Jebel Akhder because its a disappointing tourist destination in Oman.

I hope somehow this blog entry reaches you! This is what I want to see as a tourist in my own country.

Yours Sincerely,

Good Life in Muscat

The below picture is your answer.

The tailor shop is located in MQ, the shop's called Al Nfha trading. You should pay them a visit, all 3 tailors are from Morocco, very hospitable and very talented. I would've wished they allowed me to take photos but sadly it wasn't possible. :(

Shared Recipe: Home Made Nutella

Nutella is something I personally don't like but my entire family love. I decided to dig up an easy & trustable recipe from trusted page.

My favorite food blog is Mr. David L's. By far its the best food blog I ever came across, here is the recipe found on his blog:

Chocolate Hazelnut Spread
Two jars (about 1 cup each)
As noted, I wasn’t sure why they called for a small amount of almonds so I think you could get away with swapping out hazelnuts for the 1/3 cup (40g) of almonds and save yourself a trip to the store. I also think you could use all dark chocolate, and perhaps skip the honey, but since I have two jars of this homemade Nutella in my refrigerator, it’s going to be a while before I make any more.
Frankly, I was concerned when I was done at how liquidy the mixture was. But after a few hours of refrigeration, the spread was just the right texture for smearing on bread. Because a number of ingredient questions came up in the comments, so I’ve answered them at the end of the recipe.

1/3 cup (40g) whole almonds
1 1/3 cup (160g) hazelnuts
1 3/4 cup (400g) whole milk (see Notes)
7/8 cup (60g) powdered whole milk
3 tablespoons (40g) mild-flavored honey
pinch of salt
6 ounces (170g) bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, chopped
5 ounces (140g) milk chocolate, chopped (use one that’s at least 30% cacao solids)
1. Spread the nuts on a baking sheet, keeping the almond separate, and toast the nuts in a 350ºF (180ºC) oven, stirring a few times, for 10 to 15 minutes, until the hazelnuts are browned.
2. While they are roasting, warm the whole milk and powdered milk in a small saucepan with the honey and salt just until it starts to boil. Remove from heat.
3. In a clean, dry bowl set over a pan of barely simmering water, or in a microwave oven, melt the chocolates together until smooth.
4. Once the nuts are well-toasted, remove them from oven and use a spatula to place the warm hazelnuts in a clean tea towel, then fold them inside the towel and rub them vigorously to remove any loose skins. They don’t need to be pristine; just try to get as much off as possible.
5. In a food processor, grind the warm hazelnuts and almonds until they’re as fine as possible. You may not be able to get them completely smooth, depending on your food processor. (I have a brand new one and even after five minutes, there were little bits of nuts in mine, which is normal.)
6. Add the melted chocolate and continue to process the mixture, stopping to scrape down the sides of the work bowl, as necessary.
7. Once the mixture is smooth, add the warm milk mixture and process until everything is well-combined.
(The original instructions here said to strain the paste, which I didn’t do because I don’t mind the little bits of toasted nuts, but you can.)
9. Transfer the mixture into two jars and refrigerate until ready to use.
Storage: The Chocolate-Hazelnut Paste will keep in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Want to make your own ice-cream at home?

Ice cream in Muscat is a delicacy a person must enjoy mainly because of the awfully baking hot weather, so to make things very interesting for my readers I think its about time for me to introduce my latest kitchen gadget the mighty ice cream maker from Cuisinart.

I bought mine yesterday from Lakeland Muscat City Center, after 7 days of waiting & as promised by the store manager the ice cream maker has arrived! Am over the moon & can't wait to start using it! The ice cream maker comes with a manual and Lakeland has been extra nice for adding 17 different easy ice cream, italian gelato, frozen yoghurt, sorbet, ritas & slushy recipes! Totally cool, incase you are wondering the ice cream maker is 53.9 rials.

I love you Lakeland Muscat!

Abaya, abaya! Its that time of the year!

Yes, am not an abaya person but when it comes to abayas I wear them as per my taste & not somebody else's.

Am not a drama queen dresser or the common attention seeking Khaliji girl, well at least not anymore. I wear my gamboo3a down & I don't show hair. Having said that it doesn't mean that I don't look chic, am chic but with limits & my mission is to respect my religion.

I should start posting some of my own designs soon.

Btw, those of you who are looking to buy new abayas all of you should head to Al Jawhara designs in Al Khuwair for some neatly designed abayas, majority of their abayas are between 70-85 rials. Reasonable!

Cooks Heaven in Muscat City Center Lakeland Says Hello Muscat!

Yes, yes & YES!

Lakeland at last opened! The wait is over, the anticipation and the gossip is old news & if you heard the rumor but never saw the banner then you owe Lakeland in Muscat City Center a visit ASAP! ;)

Warning: not for the weak hearted peeps like myself.

So, lets get down to business. I bought 9 items & paid in total R.O 30.900! Not bad compared to the expensive Tavola.

So I got me:

2 Ramekins (Will make some seriously yummy chocolate deserts with these bad ass babies)

2 Large food containers. Two sizes one was for R.O 1.400 & R.O 1.300 (Good for when I visit my parents, can always stock up on the home made bread and other baked goods made at home)

2 Poach Pods R.O 4.000 & poach pod lift (I've always wanted to make my own poached eggs in the morning & finally I can!) They also sell 20 egg poaching bags for R.O 2.400!

One large roasting pan for R.O 8.900 (Finally I can roast chicken enough to feed 6+ people in one go!)

2 Kitchen Cloth (The non-streaking type) ;) for R.O 3.800

Fridge-IT which is a piece of charcoal to get rid of all unwanted fridge, car or gym bag odors. R.O 3.500

I loved Lakeland & I will keep buying my kitchen ware and gadgets from them. Do pay them a visit they are totally worth it. :)
